Route of the Hiawatha Camping

 

There are numerous primitive, streamside campsites along Loop Creek and the North Fork of the St. Joe River near the bottom trailhead at Pearson.  A limited number of primitive campsites can be found along Rainy Creek Road, the access road to the upper trailhead at the East Portal.  Rainy Creek is just off the I-90 at Taft (Exit 5), in Montana, 5 miles east of Lookout Pass Ski Area. Self-contained RV's may park overnight in the Lookout Pass Ski Area parking lot located just off I-90 at the Idaho/Montana border, Exit 0.

CAMPING IN IDAHO

Down By The Depot RV Park, Wallace (Fee) - Level gravel sites next to a historic building.  Eastbound:  From jct I-90 (Exit 61) & 5th Street, go 3 blocks NE and follow the signs.  Westbound:  From jct I-90 (Exit 62) go 3 blocks W, then 3 blocks N on 6th Street.
Attractions:  Recreation room/area.
Facilities:  44 sites.  44 full hookups (30 amp receptacles), 8 pull-thrus, tenting, showers, dump station, laundry, public phone, ice.  Open spring thru October.

North Fork Campground (Name changed from Squaw Creek) - 6 miles north of Avery on the N. Fork of the St. Joe Road (456), turn south 1 mile on Old Moon Pass Road.
Attractions:  Fishing on the North Fork St. Joe River, North Fork Trailhead to Nelson Peak National Recreation Trail System.
Facilities:  5 camp units, vault toilets.
Other:  No developed water, trailers not recommended.  Bridge closed to vehicles greater than 50'.

NORTH FORK CAMPGROUND WILL BE CLOSED FOR REPAIR UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Turner Flat Campground (Fee) - 8 miles east of Avery on St. Joe River Road (FH50).
Attractions:  St. Joe Wild and Scenic River, fishing, floating (until mid-July).
Facilities:  10 camp units, 1 group/15 people, potable water (June-October), vault toilets.
Other:  Day Use Area.  Pack in/Pack Out.

Tin Can Flat Campground (Fee) (elevation 2900') - 10 miles east of Avery on St. Joe River Road (FH50).
Attractions:  St. Joe Wild and Scenic River, fishing, floating (until mid-July).
Facilities:  11 camp units, potable water (June-October), vault toilets.

CAMPING IN MONTANA

Campground St. Regis (Fee) - Wooded campground with mostly shaded sites and view of the mountains.  From I-90 (St. Regis Exit 33) turn W (left) at flashing red stop light; go 3/4 mile and turn left on Little Joe Road. Go 1/2 mile and turn right on frontage road. Proceed 1/2 mile to the camp entrance.
Attractions:  Recreation room/area, coin games, swimming pool, playground, sports field, horseshoes.
Facilities:  75 sites, most common site width 30 feet, 14 full hookups, 61 water & elec (20, 30 & 50 amp receptacles), 40 pull-thrus, a/c allowed, heater allowed, central phone (modem) hookup, tenting, RV storage, dump station, laundry, public phone, limited groceries, RV supplies, LP gas by weight/by meter, ice, tables, fire rings, wood.  Open April 1 thru November 30.

Nugget RV Resort St. Regis (Fee) - All you can see at the Nugget RV Resort is mountains and sky . Located one mile east of St. Regis at 105 Old Highway 10 East. Take Exit 33 off I-90 and proceed north 100 feet to the flashing four-way stop sign. Turn right (east) and continue past the Super 8 Motel one mile to our well marked driveway on your left.
Attractions: Trestle Creek Golf Course, Quinn's Hot Springs, Western Waters White Water Rafting, Nat'l Bison Range.
Facilities: RV sites have complete hookups and are pull thru.  We also have sites for pickups with campers or pop-up trailers who desire only water and electricity. Tents and cabins available.
